How to Accept Online Card Payments in Dominica

#Separate availability from payment

Many Dominican tourism experiences depend on weather, guide capacity, transport, or minimum group sizes. Do not let a generic checkout promise availability that the operations team has not confirmed.

Three practical designs are:

1. Show live availability and let the buyer pay in a connected booking or store system.
2. Accept a reservation request, confirm it, then send a secure payment link.
3. If split capture is enabled, authorize the full amount, capture the deposit, then capture the remaining authorized balance later. Otherwise, charge the deposit and collect the balance as a new payment.

Genius Checkout can support each model, but the source booking system remains responsible for dates, inventory, and fulfilment.

#Obtain the right Republic Bank credentials

Ask the merchant-services team to confirm Powertranz/FAC, Direct or HPP, test and live environments, currencies, settlement, and 3-D Secure. HPP needs PageSet and PageName. Direct tokenization needs separate approval if the business wants to reuse a payment method.

Also confirm authorization, capture, void, refund, and partial-refund rights. An eco-tour cancellation may require a full refund, while a changed package may require a partial one. The website should not advertise an operation the account cannot perform.

Remote and mobile buyers may change networks or close the browser. Test an approved payment where the return page is interrupted. Deliver the callback twice. Confirm the order reaches one correct final state and that staff can recover it from the transaction reference.

Also test a decline, cancellation, Back navigation, retry, refund, and any planned deposit/balance sequence. A new attempt must create a new transaction rather than altering the failed record.

#Keep XCD and visitor pricing clear

Dominica uses XCD. If the merchant quotes in USD or another currency, Republic Bank must first enable the relevant transaction route. Use ISO codes on the product, checkout, receipt, and refund. Explain whether a displayed conversion is informational or the actual charged amount.

#Direct or hosted payment page?

Use Direct for the Genius Checkout payment form and approved provider tokens. HPP sends the buyer to the Powertranz page. HPP should open at the top browser level, especially when the original sale began inside an embedded CRM or website tool.
