In Trinidad and Tobago, Genius Checkout currently supports Scotiabank, RBC Royal Bank, CIBC Caribbean, First Citizens Bank, and Republic Bank through our Powertranz integration. Your bank must approve your eCommerce merchant account and issue Powertranz or First Atlantic Commerce (FAC) credentials before you can connect it to Genius Checkout.

The best choice depends on TTD and other currency needs, Direct or hosted checkout, settlement, refunds, recurring capability, technical support, and commercial terms.

Put all five offers into one comparison sheet

Institution Public or onboarding fact to confirm
Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Scotia eCommerce product, Powertranz/FAC compatibility, mode, currencies, and recurring options
RBC Royal Bank Supports FAC for Caribbean eCommerce accounts; confirm the checkout mode and features enabled for your account
CIBC Caribbean eCommerce account, 3-D Secure, credentials, permitted operations, and settlement
First Citizens Bank Its public eCommerce page describes a hosted page powered by FAC and TTD settlement; confirm current credentials and features
Republic Bank Current Powertranz/FAC route, Direct or HPP, currencies, operations, and support

Ask every institution the same questions. Otherwise one proposal may quote a hosted product while another quotes Direct, making the prices and features impossible to compare.

Map the account to the business model

Trinidad and Tobago merchants span retail, events, professional services, delivery, education, insurance, hospitality, memberships, and regional exports.

  • A retailer needs inventory, delivery, refunds, and a complete order record.
  • An event promoter needs unique attempts, ticket fulfilment, and mass-refund planning.
  • A subscription business needs tokens, merchant-initiated transactions, retries, and card updates.
  • A consultant may only need invoice payment links.
  • An agency may already sell through HighLevel funnels.

Document the required operations before choosing a bank.

Connect the chosen account with Genius Checkout

After a test Powertranz profile is working, the merchant can use:

  • WooCommerce for WordPress commerce and subscriptions.
  • HighLevel for agencies, CRM workflows, funnels, and appointments.
  • Ecwid for an embedded store.
  • GiveWP for eligible donation programs.
  • Payment links and QR codes for invoices, WhatsApp sales, events, and counters.
  • A supported API connection for local business systems.

The website order number remains searchable, but each payment attempt receives a new transaction and Powertranz-facing ID.

Direct versus HPP

First Citizens supports an FAC-hosted payment page. The other supported banks may issue HPP, Direct, or another approved checkout mode. HPP requires PageSet and PageName and must open outside restrictive iframes. Direct is the mode to request when the business needs approved provider tokens or recurring payments.

Do not assume a hosted one-time checkout can support subscriptions. Ask for the capability explicitly.

Test TTD and every additional currency independently

Run an approval, decline, 3-D Secure challenge, cancellation, browser Back, retry, duplicate callback, refund, and any planned authorization/capture flow. Subscription businesses must also test renewal failure and payment-method update.

Reconcile the store order, Genius Checkout transaction, Powertranz reference, merchant report, and settlement. Show TTD or the other approved ISO code at every customer-facing step.

Frequently asked questions

Which Trinidad and Tobago bank is best for eCommerce?

Compare the written offers against required currencies, gateway mode, recurring permissions, refunds, support, settlement, and fees. The right answer depends on the operation.

Does First Citizens use FAC or Powertranz?

Its public eCommerce page describes an FAC-hosted gateway. FAC is the former Powertranz brand; confirm the current credential and portal labels in the onboarding pack.

Can one gateway power both WooCommerce and HighLevel?

Yes, when the merchant approval covers both channels. Genius Checkout keeps the platform orders and payment attempts separate.

How should a failed renewal be retried?

Create a new transaction and gateway order ID. Preserve the failed attempt and email a secure card-update path when appropriate.
